Many companies are realizing the cost-savings and enhanced performance that Broadband services can provide. However, some companies need redundancy and fail-over features for their network connections that haven't been readily available with high availability connections. Primus has developed these services to respond to those needs.
Primus's Automatic ISDN Backup (AIB) Service includes an ISDN access package and a router with ISDN fail-over capabilities. The router will continuously monitor the health of your current Primus supplied broadband connection. If a failure is ever detected, the router will activate the ISDN connection and route all traffic out the ISDN link until primary connectivity is restored.
All of Primus's ADSL clients can take advantage of Primus's renowned, high-quality network and support services, including:
- 24 x 7 live technical support
- Redundant, triple-homed network architecture
- Multi-homed Internet backbone with DS-3, OC-3 and Gigabit Ethernet connections using BGP-4 routing protocol
- Efficient infrastructure utilizing Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) for the most efficient IP traffic routing

1 You will be required to purchase an ISDN (Microlink) line from Bell Canada to support this configuration (Bell charges a monthly fee of app. $110 for the Microlink service).

3 If you currently own a Netopia R9100, it can be used. The setup cost is increased to $485.00, Monthly cost is reduced to $199.00 and an ISDN WAN module must be purchased for $400.00, call for further details.
Service Offerings
- Utilizes any current Primus supplied broadband service as the primary connection (ADSL Performance, 1MB Lan Connection, T1), please call for further details on these connections.
- Utilizes Dial-Up ISDN as the backup connection
- 60 hours of dial-up ISDN per month is included with package, additional charges will apply if more than 60 hours is used.
- You will be required to purchase an ISDN (Microlink) line from Bell Canada to support this configuration (Bell charges a monthly fee of app. $110 for the Microlink service).
- Primus will perform all network configuration, setup, and installation
Automatic ISDN Backup Select - Package Details:
- Includes all Automatic ISDN Backup service features.
- A Netopia R9100 router is supplied with this service as the fail over device.
- Network Address Translation (NAT) must be used to route IP's, The IP addresses used on your network will be non-routable, "hidden" IP's.
- If a failure occurs, network connectivity is restored on the backup connection within 120 seconds or less.
- Includes all Automatic ISDN Backup service features.
- A Cisco 1720 router is supplied with this service as the fail over device.
- This service will automatically re-route the IP space assigned to you by Primus through the ADSL or ISDN connection depending on which of the two connections is "live".
- Can be used with fully routable IP space.
- If a failure occurs, network connectivity is restored on the backup connection within 90 seconds or less.
ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) is a medium speed, fully-digital technology supporting voice and data communications.
An ISDN connection to your site will usually consist of a Basic Rate Interface (BRI). Each BRI is made up of two data channels called "B Channels". One B channel can give you 64Kbps of bandwidth. Two B channels can also be "bonded" together to provide you with a full 128Kbps of bandwidth.
ISDN usage is based upon a single B channel, if two B channels are used (128Kbps), then the dial-up hours will be used twice as fast
Primus offers a number of different ADSL service offerings that are compatible with the Automatic ISDN backup offering. Primus also offers T1 and LAN Extension solutions that can be combined with the AIB offering.
